The UPSC Prelims CSAT Answer Key is quite important, though it is only qualifying in nature, as it determines your selection. Candidates need to clear the minimum marks of 33%, and every year, some serious aspirants underestimate this paper and thereby lose their attempt.

The Union Public Service Commission has introduced a new change for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 by deciding to release a provisional answer key shortly after the exam.
This means candidates will no longer have to wait endlessly just to get a rough sense of how they performed. They can check their responses, estimate their likely score, and if they believe a particular answer is incorrect, they also have the option to raise an objection.
Objections can be submitted online, but they won’t be accepted without proper backing. Candidates will need to explain their objection clearly and support it with references from credible sources.

Use these formulas based on UPSC’s official marking scheme:
Unattempted questions carry zero marks. Example: 58 correct + 12 wrong in GS Paper 1 = (58 × 2) − (12 × 0.667) = 116 − 8 = 108 marks. Use Unacademy’s built-in UPSC marks calculator on this page to compute your score automatically.
| Paper | Questions | Total Marks | Correct | Wrong | Unattempted |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GS Paper 1 | 100 | 200 | +2 | −0.667 | 0 |
| CSAT Paper 2 | 80 | 200 | +2.5 | −0.833 | 0 |
Both papers are conducted in offline OMR mode. GS Paper 1 determines the Prelims merit cutoff. CSAT is qualifying only, marks are not added to the final score. Negative marking of ⅓ of the question's marks applies to every wrong answer.
Under UPSC’s new 2026 transparency reform, candidates can challenge answers via the QPRep (Question Paper Representation) Portal on upsc.gov.in.
